Hi - we fixed this problem today after I tried everything else. First you need to remove the drain pipe and the top silver thingee you see in the sink basin. It’s sold as a set. It is all corroded underneath and causing the rust stain. After it's removed get a pumice stone for cleaning at the 99¢ store and the stain will come off easily without scratching the porcelain. I don’t know why nothing else worked as well or quickly.
And don't forget to seal it with waterproof caulk after you've removed the rust so it doesn't come back!
