  • First check local building codes, then hire a contractor. If you have a mobile or manufactured sales lot in your area, they do sell add on room kits. You will still need to pull a permit and have inspected as with a standard home.

Like was said before, check your local codes.

Here in Greene County, Missouri, the add on must be free-standing with no weight on the mobile home.

I poured concrete piers to build on, but blocks and a footing would work too. I chose piers because of the grade. A Cono-Tube was easier to get level. I used a transit for this and ran a piece of wire through the tube to set grade. I used saddles set in the concrete to attach the floor beams. I used nail in saddles to attach the joists to the beams. Build your floor on the joists. If you are going to insulate the floor, do it as you lay the floor. Makes life a whole lot easier. (Voice of experience. lol)

Finish your build as you would for regular construction, ie 16 or 24 inch centers for studs.

I ran the roof line 2" below the top of the MH and tied it in with 6" flashing.

Make sure your floor is below your MH door opening. Mine was 2".

    Hope that helps. Good luck.
