This article has some great tips for apartments:

Hi, again. A good rule: Less is More. Less furniture and clutter means rooms will seem more spacious. Hang mirrors in every room, even the kitchen or across from the kitchen. If you can, create a view from the front door to a window or large mirror. Place a big piece of artwork, bought or made by you, on the wall your guests will face, if you can, of course. Generally, dark, heavy fabrics and walls will make rooms look smaller. However, a darker or bright accent wall can seem to expand a room.
Make every space and piece of furniture do double duty. Use the space under the beds for storage, even if you have to raise the bed up by using the strong bed lifters for the legs, and even if you have to provide a little step to get into bed. Get rid of everything you don't use or like. Use extra shelves or decorated boxes to store out of season clothing, extra blankets, etc. so you can pull the boxes out when you need them.
If the bathroom does not have storage under the sink, buy the largest lidded basket that will fit under it. That's your clothes hamper. If there is not enough space on the vanity for your makeup and such, find a narrow bookcase the same approximate height as the sink. Paint it white or the color of the walls. Have the shelves facing away from the bathroom door, if you can, and use those shelves for plastic boxes that organize and store your toiletries, extra soap and hair products and other things like hand towels and wash clothes. You can use a large short cardboard box painted white to hold bath towels on the floor and the bottom shelf.
I hope you can use some of these ideas. Best wishes π
