When I was a little kid with really long fine hair, I combed my hair before washing to have less tangles after. I also rinsed with a half cup apple cider vinegar and water and a quick cold rinse.
Or use Dove conditioner and rinse well. They sell kid products but way over priced and full of chemicals - for commercial products, dove is one of the better ones.
No More Tangles I think Johnson&Johnson makes it. Always comb from the bottom up. Good Luck!
Have you tried Johnson's No More Tangles, or a leave-in conditioner, or I use about a dimes' worth of Zero Frizz cause it calms down the frizz. The most important is to get a good tangle-free comb.... it has two rows of teeth and is highly polished so the hair easily moves through it. https://www.amazon.com/Teal-Tangle-Tamer-Curved-Tooth/dp/B003N8QU4Q/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1506105695&sr=8-1&keywords=tangle+free+comb here is one, but try a hair/cosmetic shop like Sephora for a really good one.
Sally's has detangler products. They are pump spray products that are leave in. I remember Johnson & Johnson had a detangler for kids that worked really well , but that was a long time ago, my kids are grown. They might still make that product. Good Luck
Thank You

I had burrs in my hair as a kid, and my friend's mom used "No More Tangles". Since it was a daily issue, my Mother ended up buying me a detangling hair dryer it was the best thing! It had 2 rows of combs that went in opposite directions.
Another thing that helped, was going to bed with braided hair.
