If you don't want to sew you could use stitch witchery, which you just put inside your hem and iron, here is a link on this:

I did that without bothering the bottom finished hem and they turned out super. Decide how much you want to shorten, turn inside out fold over to desired length -RIGHT AT THE HEM LINE on the bottom of the jeans. Sew carefully then cut the inside material. try to cut so you don't leave a 'lump' of material. Or cut with a bit of material left and iron flat. Depends on heaviness of material. You can use this same idea for drapes, tops, etc where you want the original hem instead of a new one.
Turn the pants inside out. Put them on with the shoe you'll wear with the pants. Bring the hem line up to your instep, this is your hem line. Cut off everything except a inch, which would be your hem. Iron and then sew, or use hem tape which you put between the pants and hemline. You can find this at Joann's, sewing store, maybe a craft store, or online. Good Luck!
Or you could measure the length you want and cut the extra length to 1 1/2" - 2" longer , fold under 1/4"-1/2", press, then hem them with a dress garment hem to make them a little less casual. I used to do that with my old sewing machine, using the zig zag stitch, newer machines have a hemming attachment.
