Call a local pet store about this. If you use the wrong paint it could be TOXIC. EJL.
It is not just the paint that can be toxic. Birds are very susceptible to strong odors. make sure the paint is completely dry and odor free before you put your bird in the cage. Make sure the bird is a long ways away from any of the paint odor while you paint. I have had birds die from people spraying things like perfume or even air freshener sprays that were sprayed in the same room.
So happy to point you in the right direction! Hometalk is always happy to help!
You should NEVER use store bought spray paint. If your birds chew on the metal bars, the flakes can be toxic. It doesn't matter how well it's cured or dried. The only thing I have found that is safe for bird cages is called ECOS. It is pricey, but well worth it if it means making sure your birds are safe.
