annual in the north; don't know about the south
There is a hardy begonia that will over-winter to zone 7 or so: Begonia grandis. It also readily reseeds.

Depends on you area and what begonia
Where do you live? Annual in Canada but you can dig up the 'bulbs' and store in a cool dark place over winter and plant out again in the spring. They will not tolerate any frost at all.
