Ask your local agriculture extension to come out and take a look. It is free and they are very knowledgeable. We had a tree that had growths on it, turns out it was a disease and the tree needed to be cut down to protect the other trees.
Yes . I would believe there is a disease in the tree. Please get a professional out to let you know what is going on and what is needed to stop the disease.
