You should not paint trees, it will kill them, that is how they breathe.
I agree, the tree trunk breathes, as do the branches and leaves. The only thing that I have ever seen painted is when someone cuts off a big branch.
Tree wound and Pruning sealer is what you want to place on the stumps after pruning.
You have true dwarf Citrus trees. ( Boy, I wish I could get those here!)
: )
If you want to trim the tree, you can do so. The more you trim in the fall, the better the growth will be in the spring. Tho in the spring, be alert to shoots, or suckers who want to grow, and then just trim these off. Best wishes, for a lovely crop of fruit. J. Be sure you spray as needed, and trim as needed. Use a notebook, and keep track of these duties, in case you need to refer to the dates. PS. One main factor. . each year is the not the crop year. They bear a crop one year, then rest a yr, and the next year, you will get a larger crop of fruit. Best wishes, J.
It has oranges on it now...but it is ok to prune? Fertilize? Spray?? Thank you Judy!!
You seem to have answered your own question. You have 2 choices: you can try an uneducated, well meaning guess; or you can go to the pros at the orange orchard.
Every area is different, even in the same neighborhod. You need to go to your local REAL garden center/nursery (not box store ie Home Depot, Lowes) to find out how to grow in your area. You need to bring a little light pail of dirt to be analyzed, so you can put in the correct product to amend your soil to a healthy soil that the plant needs. The best thing to do is contact your State's Cooperative Extension Service. Every state has a State's Cooperative Extension Service, it is a part of your State University System. Just Google & include your state's name to get the email address &/or tel number for your state. They will let you know what to plant & how to take care of it & usually have soil testing for a small fee or free you can also buy soil testing kits in gardening stores( yup H D & Lowes) or on line. Actually the soil should be tested every Spring, & in several areas around your yard. That is how diverse soil can get. Your State's Cooperative Extension Service, is specifically there to handle all of your state's agriculture needs, be it animal, forestry, gardening, even an African Violet on a windowsill. If they are far away they can recommend a Master Gardener in your area. Feel free to contact them, that is what they are there for.
Thank you so much! This is exactly the info I was after!!
