Ants hate cinnamon and talc. Both are safe for your plants. You can also read up on what they people say about natural ways to repel unwanted critters.

Peonies need ants or they won't open. I hate when ants move into my potted plants so I use cornmeal. They cannot digest it and it kills the colonies. We use Jiffy because it is sweet and they gather it immediately and take it back to the queen and they all die. That rids them in your yard. It is safe for children, pets and the environment. Also, it is inexpensive. Hope this helps.

Cayenne or habenaro peppers blended with water, added to a spray bottle will keep insects and a lot of 4-legged pests off of your plants.

You can put borax mixed with sugar or even crushed clean and dried eggshell around the outside of the plant...not directly against. The ants will carry the borax mixture to the nest and poison the colony. The eggshell acts just like diathanthous earth in that it scratches the ant's skeleton, causing body dessication.

a thin line of Sevin dust works as well. They wont walk across it. And it is so safe, we dust baby animals and birds with it to kill mites.

  • packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
