I clean my windows with a combo of purchased glass cleaner, add a couple drops of blue dawn dish soap and a 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol. the dawn boosts the cleaning power and the rubbing alcohol helps it to dry faster without streaking.
Here is one: 2 cups water, 1/3 cup vinegar, 1/2 tsp. Dawn. Use in spray bottle.
Also, this is one I have used for years: 1/2 cup ammonia, 2 cups rubbing alcohol, 1 tsp. blue Dawn, 1 Tbl. Jet-Dri for no-wipe drying. Add all the ingredients to a 1-gallon jug and fill with warm water.
For indoor windows: Equal parts vinegar and water. You can add blue food coloring to any of these for easier identifying.
P.S. If you want to test any of these, I will volunteer my windows in the interest of science!

USED NEWSPAPER WOULDN'T STREAK YOUR WINDOWS
Ammonia water to clean and vinegar water to rinse. My mom to this day (she is 97) uses this to keep hers sparkling clean. She used to dry with newspaper, but now uses towels or quality paper towels.

First, take an equal amount of vinegar and water and mix them together in a spray bottle. White distilled vinegar will work best for this. Then, spray the solution on your windows and let it sit for around two to three minutes. Lastly, use a gentle cloth to wipe away the cleaning solution and avoid any streaks.
I use half and half plain white vinegar and water, spray on and wipe with a microfiber cloth.
