I just learned how to do this technique through your hometalk tv, I also made a love sign along with a re purposing a metal windmill and using the same technique to make it look worn and old!
i purchased 5" letters from michaels, painted them a dark brown. sprayed in sprits metallic grey in areas, and did the same with black paint too! i then sprinkled household cinnamon on areas of the letters. i took some metallic acrylic paint, and with a scruffy brush, dabbed on to the cinnamon ~it gives the piece a rusted look! completed the letters with a couple of coats of varnish and then nailed them onto a piece of fence i had painted a distressed orange. sprayed again with varnish for protection, added a sawtooth hook, and my sign is ready to hang, or lean against my porch. i've been learning a lot on the hometalk tv tutorials! they are great and i've been sharing them with others through my fb pages! thanks again to junk2jewels! can't wait to learn more techniques from you!
This is the windmill
Hope you like it!

Such a great project!. Thanks you for the tutorial. Only issue, it doesn't say what color paint you use on the cinnamon.

Thanks, Debi, I can't wait to try this technique, maybe even this afternoon! I was referring to this passage tho "i took some metallic acrylic paint, and with a scruffy brush, dabbed on to the cinnamon ~it gives the piece a rusted look!" Thanks!
