Pine Trees Safety

We are building a house in Decatur and there are three pine trees in the front yard. The City has recently put in strict tree removal ordnances. Could it be these trees would be a danger of falling on the house because there are only three together? I was once told that pine trees aren't a danger when there are many together.

You need to find out what kind of pine trees to determine any safety issues and what the city would let you do. Pine trees are a fast growing tree that can actually grow about 40' in 20 years. They are a soft wood tree and can easily break in a storm and they can grow up to 100' tall. There are many varieties of pine trees and you should know what kind you are dealing with to determine what is best for your property. Good luck.

Wow, most Colorado pine trees are slow growing and little or no danger of falling. I do think you need to find out what type and maybe even post pictures! There are over 50 species.

Pines all have shallow roots and if close together it could cause all three to fall at once. However it will take one strong wing to have that happen. I'm in Dawsonville GA and we have some high winds with storms and my who back acreage is pines and only one has toppled in 10 years. It also was leaning before the storm. Have them evaluated by Acorn Tree Care to determine if there is a problem. They are excellent arborist!

The most important thing I can tell you is that you are going to have a septic system put in make sure that present or future roots won't damage it.

Thanks everyone. I think we'll have an arborist take a look. I would like to get rid of them for a few reasons, but safety is first!!
