Refinishing ideas needed

Question

I'm new to the DIY and restoring/refinishing world. I want to keep the project simple and keep the dressers close to original. Any ideas?

What a wonderful find. Any of the paint couture products with a simple glaze would be lovely. I would suggest Italian Ivory with either Champagne or Zinc Glazes. Be sure to clean very well with TSP from the hardware store and rinse with water before painting for better adhesion!. Use rubber gloves.

Paint with chalk paint in a color to match your decor, and change out the pulls

Chalk paint in your favorite color.(I personally love the new black furniture look.) Distress with sandpaper if you want a more 'shabby chic' look, and add updated drawer pulls. You can fine a wide variety of reasonable pulls at Lowes or Home Depot or on online. Be sure and post pictures of the finished project

To keep them close to what they are, chalk paint ivory and sand to add the age then use clear wax. But think about changing then up some. Get creative and have fun.

I've never used Annie Sloan paint before but that would be my first suggestion. What a great find! What type of finish is on the top of these dressers? Years ago we bought a set like this for our daughter and it had a 'melamine like finish' on top..don't know how you would handle that if yours has that. Maybe some experienced furniture finishers can offer you some advice. Why would people put beautiful, useful stuff by the curb like that? Guess they knew somebody would grab it quickly..I love that French provential style. Check out a blog called' My Romantic Home' blog and see what Cindy did with some used French Provential furniture like that. It is beautiful but a dining room set not bedroom but she is really a delightful person and will answer your questions if you email her.

They would be gorgeous in a high gloss finish with gilded/metallic accents in the grooves (grey, ivory or white with silver or gold), then update the handles with fresh spray paint or buy new - Hobby Lobby has some really nice ones. For even more 'wow' do mirrored tops.

If the current paint is in good shape, you could glaze right over it to give it an antiqued look.  My mom did this in the 60's with some furniture and it looked great!

These would be beautiful painted with Plaster Paint! There isn't any prep work required...no sanding, no stripping, no priming. Just wipe the furniture clean and start painting. I would use Young Kansas Wheat by CeCe Caldwell on these pieces. The paint will update the look and give them that great French feel. American Paint Company is another great choice in chalk paint. Odor free and easy to work with.

dark gray with white in the indents and spray paint the handles black or silver this is what I'm doing to the dresser I have that matches your set . I'm leaving the top white.

There are endless beautiful makeovers all over Pinterest/HomeTalk/blogs etc.of this style furniture. The photo below is one of my most favorite French Provincial makeovers, ever. In my opinion, it's simply stunning and so current done in gray and white. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I originally saw this photo, or who did the makeover but I did make note that the gray color was Hunter's White by Valspar, and the white was Heirloom White, a Rustoleum color. I also would use chalk paint ...but first, paint a little red in the raised areas and a little duck egg blue...then a gray or off white as the base. Sand the raised area's so the other colors come threw...

Val Pieroni, that is an interesting recommendation. The color contrasts would be interesting for sure. I like it!. Chantel, you have lots of great ideas here to choose from. This is part of a bedroom suite we bought 37 years ago. Seemed expensive to us, but it really wasn't great quality so i didn't mind painting it white a few years ago, and just recently, used Rustoleum paint to do this. it looks great! For about $30
