Sanding it, with electrical sander, Homedepot or Lowe's rents them, makes the job easy, if you know how to use it.
Citristrip is a good stripper that is supposed to be user-friendly and environmentally safer than the other strippers that can burn your skin when you use it.
How much finish do you have to strip? Citristrip is good for thicker finishes. Thinner finishes like lacquer or varnish can be sanded away.
Please wear a dust mask when you sand wood.
