what is your location
Hosta's and Sedum, both grow well in pots. If you are in a colder climate that gets snow then just tip the pots on their sides in a semi-protected spot and they will come back up the next year. I have also done that with corkscrew willow, as I want the lushness of trees but it was all cement.
