Hi Marsha, I like the look of a nice picture on an easel. You could change the picture for some depicting different holidays. When placing vases or candles, remember that odd numbers are recommended by designers. Christmas is the best time to decorate a mantle. A big Santa or a tall vase full of pretty ornaments with garland and lights around them would be pretty too. And who doesn't love a big ornate mirror above a fireplace? I hope these ideas help you. Drag out every knick knack, picture, mirror, candle, vases, pottery and anything else that interests you in your possession. Then just try different things until you get a look that pleases you. Different heights and textures keep things interesting. Shop your own home first before heading out to buy more stuff. Home Goods and Steinmart both have cool stuff for not a lot of money. Im all about vintage family photos

So many people get this wrong. You need some height, some sparkle, something pretty. For example I have a tall crystal candle stick on one end and another tall crystal hurricane on the other end. It's Halloween and I have a minature haunted house and a small pumpkin displayed as well. You would probably enjoy looking through some decorating magazines for ideas. I always try lots of different looks until I get what I like the most.
