There are kits available for this very thing. Home Depot and Lowe's sell them and you might even find them at your local paint stores. Try using it on something else first, just to get a little practice before you start your counter tops. I have seen pictures of tops done with the kits and it looked just like marble.
You can buy kits to do this at your local home center. They have different patterns such as marble, granite, etc.
