Quite a bit of debate over this subject. Living in Los Angeles, I have a plethora of stoneyards all within reach. Even the tiny town I live in has a stoneyard. Personally, I steer clear of Chinese granite and stick to European and American slabs. And use a reputable dealer too. The yard up the street from me only carries predominately American granite and stone and carries a vast variety of sizes and quality to fit almost any budget. Here are a couple links to help you decide for yourself.

According to this site, you should probably steer clear.
