We try to plant grass, but when it rains all the seed runs down the hills. Seems like to big of a slope, so we would like to take it down a little.

Is your soil also sandy? Have you considered other ground covers or a different kind of grass? Bermuda grass might work for you because it spreads by stolen along with roots. It can be invasive though

  • You need to regrade the yard a bit and add a topper over the seed and sprinke gently until the seeds sprout. See if this link helps.

Hello. You can purchase a netting material made to keep the seed from eroding away. I would put a nice layer of top soil down, seed it and then the netting. Good luck!

We just replanted part of our yard and my husband spread straw over the area to hold the seed in place so the rain wouldn't move it or wash it away. We now have beautiful new grass. It took 2 bales of straw to cover an approximate 20' x 60' area, Hope this helps.

The hay matted down when you wet it down, makes great bedding for animals because fleas can't live in hay, not the right thing for growing grass seed though. Straw doesn't mat down, stays in place. Would work better is you can chop it up some. Even if you are on a slope the straw should stay in place, holding the seed in place. Hope this helps.

Get a sod shovel and take grass from other part of yard and put it on hill then replant the level area, more work probably but you have your grass quicker.

Another way is to make shallow channels with a stick about every 6 inches across the hill in a horizontal pattern. Put seed in channel so it can't wash away. Once that grows and is firm plant another row between and then after that seed the whole area.
