Granite chips from stone workers would work I would think.I would think that a sand and gravel company might have some or a stone mason.
Petrified wood or sand stone.
I would add slightly larger decorative rocks, this way the mail carrier will think twice about trying to run the truck up so close to the box and stop him from being careless about his customers property 💡📌🔨
If the Large Decorative Rocks listed above extend too far out... Your mail carrier may not be able to reach your mailbox and be able to deliver your mail (in some locations it is considered too dangerous for the carrier to exit their vehicle... if he or she cannot reach your mail box then you may not get your mail until the problem is corrected)
The problem with the gravel being ground into the dirt.. may be because there is not enough gravel down to create a good base... or the area fills with water when it rains and the gravel sinks with the weight of the carrier's and your vehicle......I am a retired mail carrier and know the problem well... we have a soil condition here in rural Arizona we call "moon dust" it is so fine that it almost liquefies in heavy rains.
