No, it wasn't HomeTalk that ran that. Pop-ups, ads,, etc., are the result of Adware, and this story probably came up as the result of your internet searches. "Targeted advertising" is often tied to your internet surfing (searches) habits, age, etc. (By you opening this story, you set yourself up to receive more of this "come on" gossip. Good rule of thumb is NOT to open anything you didn't initiate. While this is not true malware, the way to get rid of this is to use a HOSTS file or AdBlock program of some type.
If it is a paid advertisement, they can't always say what the content is. This is how Hometalk remains a free forum for people to use. I just ignore those adds that are on the side of the screen. I don't even notice them any more.
It said the same thing about Jane Fonda, Betty White, etc. You may want to avoid anything on the right edge as it's almost always a pop-up or a malicious click-bait. They get you by posting this "awful news" and then they have you. Google is your best choice.
I agree, Hometalk may not have any control over the "ads". It's just "click bait", so ignore it like a TV commercial!
