New flooring over old

There is indoor/outdoor very low pile carpeting in back bathroom. Is there any flooring we can put over it without removing it?

Judyms9, As far as I know there is no flooring you can put over carpeting successfully, whether it is indoor/outdoor or any other type. Besides, when you stop to think about it, sandwiching carpeting in a damp area like a bathroom, is just asking for trouble (all types of mold, mildew, and bacteria will be attracted to it along the edges and work their way into it underneath). It wouldn't be long before you would have a rotten stinking mess under your new flooring and have to rip it up anyway. You might as well do the tearing up now before you're faced with a health-threatening situation. .... Sorry ....

NO! Old flooring needs to be removed.

It would be better to take it out if it gets wet at all it could ruin everything you did including the floor below it Not to mention the smell. I had to scrape a foam backed carpet out of a large kitchen and foyer area and it was not easy your job doesn't seem as hard get a good flat shovel and that should be so much easier.

Yeah, I hate to disappoint you, but I agree with all the others. You're just going to have to bite the bullet, and remove the old stuff first. You really, really don't want old carpet underneath a new surface that gets wet and develops black mold -- that can destroy the value of your whole home (depending on what part of the country you live in; here in Colorado black mold can be grounds for banks not giving a mortgage on a property). And since it's a bathroom, it can't be all that big, and you can probably whip it out in an afternoon. Then it'll be nice and ready for whatever kind of flooring you put in.
