when I have traveled in a motor home the cabinets had pretty secure lock&catches. In my tiny travel trailer I keep the tableware in a plastic tote under a bunk.
stacking plate racks are great -- and I like the nicer quality but still plastic type dinner ware ( except for 'silverware ) -Corelle is very 'break resistant - and fairly light weight
We use a small pot lid organizer and stack our Corelle plates sideways in the cupboard. I have also heard of people simply stacking their plates in the cupboard and putting a paper plate in between each plate to reduce noise and cushion.
We traveled for for more than 3 years in 5 different motorhomes and I always used Corelle (or paper) and just stacked the Corelle. It fits together quite nicely and never once moved. The sound was not a problem even without anything between them. There's probably very few thrift shops that don't have Corelle. You only need 4 place settings. If you're entertaining more than 4, use paper lol. I found coffee mugs to be more of a problem, but then found one of those small rectangular baskets at a dollar store and my mugs fit exactly inside with no leftover room so the mugs barely moved at all. Again, no noise and not one broken mug
When I was a child we had a travel trailer. My mother bought good quality plastic dinnerware and used cardboard boxes to separate parts of the overhead cabinets. Worked great for years.
I have lived and traveled in a motor home for years. I have old China that are dear to me, I just place a paper towel between each in the cupboard. Never have broken or noise.
Glasses and mugs ride great with just a little space between them.
My cabinets are lined with the non slip material you buy also use it on counter for coffee maker and toaster. They ride just fine.
Hope this helps, happy RVing
