I have been painting my walls and notice that my ceiling looks yellowish. Can I paint this ceiling as well? I'm up for any ideas
remove the mirror and paint it any color your heart desires! I’d probably wet distress it by painting over the gold and wiping off some paint in raised areas. Finally thin down a dark color ( black, brown something) and antique it when the paint is dry.
If you like a color "pop" in your home, pick one that will draw the eye to it. Here is a link that will help.

To update it, I would paint it a brushed nickle or silver gray color. There are a number of spray paints now that you could use after removing the mirror. I'd do it out side on large appliance cardboard.
Hunter green might work, or a deep blue or burgundy... Pick what ever your main accent color is for the first room you enter
Paint it a nice silver color. Some silver colors look cheap and gaudy (check that spelling). Try to find a pewter color or in the grey family. They have so many colors and textures, I'm sure you'll find something that goes with everything else.
I don't think silver would look good on a beige wall myself, but a bronze would look good, and if you want to highlight some of the design use a gilder's paste in antique gold very sparingly.... if small get 2 oz otherwise its a quart.... https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-Metallic-255300-Decorative-Champagne/dp/B003EELN46/ref=pd_cp_60_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=H222Q1XV2TCNCNJC9E9P&th=1

You could also do a traditional gold leaf look by using the gilder's paste over a blue or red metallic paint and apply the gold heavier.
There is no need to remove the mirror either, I use blue painter's tape around the edges pushing it under the lip of the frame with a plastic putty knife, and then put a sheet of the clear contact paper over the mirror to cover glass or tape brown packing paper in place.
