prefer no chemicals. Not sure if it is antique found 34 years ago in a shop. Cane seat will need to be replace eventually. Bonus if you can tell what style chair and if it is an antique, thanks

  • I would turn it over and look for markings. Before attempting to refinish, I would contact an antique furniture expert and let them have a look. From the photo it is hard to see how it was constructed, as that will give you information on when the piece was made.

If you decide to refinish, I would use Citristrip.

I wouldn't strip the paint. I would use DIY Clay paint or Chalk paint on top to do a nice shabby antique look. You don't need to prep anything with either of these paints. https://diypaint.co/ They are super pigmented and a little goes a long way with awesome results. Totally natural and no VOC

Oh! Forgot to mention, you don't have to make it shabby, you can also do it nice and sleek or any way you like. It dries super fast and lasts forever if you do it right. Here's a link to Annie Sloan Chalk paint: https://www.anniesloan.com/
