Vick's vaporub is something a cat does NOT like. My friend put some under her couch to get the cat to stop scratching and it worked. Put some on a branch or on something inconspicuous near where the cat is leaving its business...it is worth a try. Good luck.
Cats hate the feeling of crushed up eggshells shells on their feet. You could scatter that around the area and see if that deter them?

It's updating their marking of territory that he/she left their previous scent. Hose the area down daily to combat the returning practice of updating their claim of territory. They will find a new area to mark.
