yes you can use it to oil your garden tools. take a bucket or flower pot, fill with sand adding some oil as you go. mix it up. then putting your tools in and out of the mix several times will clean and oil them at the same time.
you can use old veg oil also for making a japanese beetle killer. in a spray bottle put some veg oil (1/2 in), 1 tblsp Dawn and water. spray the beetles and coated in oil, they die in a few minutes.
Once it is rancid, it is too late. :/
