After reading the article Janet sent you, I did not see an answer for you, thus I will give you my experience. A worm is eating the leaves. Two simple fixes. I have used seven dust for a small tree, and seven concentrate sprayed on a larger tree. A second way is to spray a bio-chemical that gives the worm a upset stomach and then dies. In both sprays I use a few drops of dish soap mixed in the spray to make the mix stick to the leaf for better results. Both can be found in the garden dept at home and garden centers. Also look for a large worm eating the leaves on smaller trees and just cut it into with hand pruners. If noticed leaves are being eaten again repeat.
