My favorite thing to use is a galvanized horse or stock tank. One that is commonly available (for about $90 new) is 4 ft long X 2 ft wide X 2 ft deep. You can find them at Lowe's, Tractor Supply, and any farm and garden supply (try and find them locally, as they are heavy to ship) sometimes you can find them used on places like Craig's list.. and if the bottoms have holes in them... then you won't have to drill drain holes in the new ones. The nice thing is that they can be moved, by 2 people, if you dump the dirt out first (put it on a tarp and then, you can put it back in the pot)
Do not put the beds right up against the fence, as the fence boards will begin to rot. Allow enough space in between for air flow, sunlight, and access for maintenance on the fence.
How close is your nearest water source? Make sure that the beds are still within reach of your longest garden hose, or the longest garden hose that you can buy.
