Scrap out all the loose grout, vacuum really well, run a tack cloth over the area, and then re-grout and seal.
There is a tool that you can get at your home improvement stores, scrape out the grout and then replace it. The original grout may not have been sealed.
Grout that is breaking out from between tiles means the your floor has some flex to it. A ceramic floor is not supposed to flex. The subfloor under your tile was not built strong enough so that when you walk on the floor, the floor flexes and grout cracks and breaks. One solution is to go to your favorite home center and purchase grout that is the same or similar color in caulk form. Clean out the damaged area and apply the flexible grout.
i have the same problem!! thanks for the tips! i doubt i'll find the same color though, any tips for that? please don't say i'd have to redo the whole floor.... ugh.
Could you not paint/stain the grout to more closely match what you have? I seem to remember reading where people have done this to make grout match.
