If you are just looking to improve the look you can cover the doors in fabric that has been dipped in fabric starch. You smooth it out like wall paper and when the fabric starch dries the fabric is stuck to the door. To remove it you just wet it and peel it off. This works best with light to med wt fabric.

Is it the stripper/ chemical that is the problem? ( that is nasty stuff) Maybe the cabinets are really cheap and the wood is too thin.... Maybe if you suggest sanding.. or just say prime and paint ... and suggest a neutral color.... you will get the ok.. I would be so frustrated!
Have you invited the manager over to see what the cabinets are doing? They should be glad someone wants to make them look better.
