What are your counters made of? Cheapest is to paint, if laminate sand lightly and fix and glue down any pieces that are lifting, I filled a small hole with wood filler and sanded to rough up the surface. Use a good primer, then paint with your choice of color or colors, finish with several coats of polyurethane. Can dab several different colors with a sponge or crinkled plastic bag to make a granite look. Check out the mis tint section of your local hardware or Habitat store for cheaper paint. There is lots of information on Pinterest how to paint counter tops. You can also purchase kits for this though they can be a little expensive.
I would buy one of those epoxy paint kits from Rustoleum, Gianni or Transformation sold at home stores or hardware stores.
