First sand the surface down. Then add an oil-based primer and leave it to dry. Sand again and then add some color to it. You can paint it with 2 colors to give it nice contrast, for example black and white, or dark brown with white or beige. There are so many colors.
Start with washing with Murphy's oil soap, follow the directions on the bottle. Dry completely. You have a few choices, you can use Wilbert's lemon oil, and buff it to a nice shine. Then there's a product called Rejuvenate, which will bring your cabinets back to life. Please take in mind, I really don't know what condition your cabinets are in. If you prefer something else, then it's time to paint. If you decide to paint, let's know, and will give you some steps to begin.
