How do you remove carpet that was glued to a cement floor?

I purchased a house that has a daylight finished basement. The builder, prior owners glued the indoor/outdoor carpet to the cement floor. I can't pull it up with force, it won't budge....

Glue down carpet can be horrible to budge. Try to get it started with a crowbar or flat narrow shovel. Some glues need to be dissolved with a solvent (like Goof Off), others with heat (try a hairdryer), other glues disolve/loosen with boiling water. A heat gun can work with the necessary precautions. It can be a tough job, but just keep trying! Perhaps you know some tough teenagers up for the challenge?

It can be a ton of work to remove, but worth the effort to have a floor that is nice such as stained concrete.

Thank you, I knew there wouldn't be an easy fix! The square footage is the problem, we're talking 1800 sq.ft. just for the basement. Thank you very much for your time and info.

Persistence and Determination is the only way to get it up... Teen muscle just might do it... especially if Pizza is involved. Good Luck.

i only have one thing to add: use a file and sharpen the edge of the shovel. 😇💖

If you can get a corner up try a heat gun, be careful they can get very hot, but if you aim for the cement right under where you pilled up the carpet it should melt the glue so you can pull it up. After it'e out you can go back with your heat gun and melt n scrape off the sticky glue.

Teenage age boys and lots of pizza and soda. Maybe a local sports team as a fund raiser? Good luck!
