We have a garden store here in NW Iowa called Earl Mays I am not sure where else they might be. They carry a product called Grass B Gone it helps a lot.

If you can get at them at this time of year, I would pull and dig up all I can so that there will be less in your iris bed.

Make a solution of 3 cups vinegar, 1 cup table salt and 2-3 drops dishwashing liquid. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the grass. Do not get it on your other plants because it will kill them. The grass should begin to die within a couple of days....then pull it out. Try to pull all sprouts as soon as you see them so they do not have a chance to germinate and grow.

I would hire a young teen to get in there and dig like crazy. Maybe she can dig up the iris bulbs, then get rid of the grass, spread some fresh top soil, and replant those bulbs and even more. I would cover the entire bed in mulch or a thick layer of newspapers. The bulbs will send their shoots up through either one in the Spring, but mulch is easier. 😇

Vinegar and boiling water will kill it but make sure to cover the areas you don't want affected bc it doesn't discriminate in terms of what it will hurt- best of luck :)

Remove the iris, plant the rhizomes temporarily in a pot, then use Roundup on the grass. Roundup will dissipate so you can replant your iris in the same area. If you don't kill all the roots, you will have a reoccurring problem.
