I personally don't think you have to paint them if you don't want to. You have a covered porch so that gives you endless opportunities for pillows, colorful accent décor or plants. There are plenty of things you can do without painting. Unless you really want to! :)

I like the color red...it would make the furniture pop and would be fun to decorate throughput the year.

Oh yes, red would be beautiful. Your porch has endless possibilities. Another inexpensive perk up would be to get a runner of outdoor carpet from a big box store to run the whole width of the porch. If you built the chairs from pallets make 2 little tables to put between the chairs on both sides of the porch. You could get the carpet in grey to keep it neutral and match the floor. Look for assorted sizes of pots in pretty colors like turquoise, red, yellow and light greens to line along the outside edge of the porch. Fill them with colorful annuals and a couple plants that will stay green or at least interesting all year round. Dwarf fountain grass, boxwood etc. If you already have a lot of pots get a couple cans of spray paint made for plastic and make them as good as new. I'd also pressure spray or wash the siding down on the porch. Our siding gets like that over the winter and it always looks so fresh and "happy" after I clean it in the spring. Good luck in making your porch the envy of your neighbors. I can see you sitting in your red chairs drinking lemonade or a cold beer !

I vote yes! Pick a color that you would like to accent on your porch and in your landscaping and flower plantings; like yellow, green, red, teal, pink or the like and then make that the color you play up. Find seat cushions you love and then add perennials, candle, flowers, plants, and collectibles that look good with your seat cushions. You have a blank pallet to play with. Have fun!! Here a picture of my porch. My porch is somewhat neutral (green siding/tan trim/cement) I first found my outdoor cushions at Home Depot and picked the one's I really liked. Then I painted a round table green, my chairs dark brown and added accent items in the teal and brown tones picked up from the cushions and pillows. Every spring I look forward to planting containers with colorful annuals, bringing my house plants outside to the porch and setting up my porch for the summer months.

Justin, I had another thought. What about staining the porch chairs. They look weathered and would probably soak paint in and you would need several coats, especially if you paint them a vibrant color like red. A stain would soak in and give you protection from outdoor elements at the same time. Not that this matters but if you are a bachelor you may not want all the bright colors I mentioned earlier. You can go with pots in reds, greens and blacks and then coordinate your flowers. Yellow and red flowers would look good. If you go with cushions on the chairs a stripe would look good.

Absolutely yes! The furniture would look awesome painted and it would add so much curb appeal! However, before choosing a color, I would find a few colorful outdoor throw pillows and then use the pillows as your color inspiration for the furniture. If it were me, I'd also paint the pots a coordinating color and fill them with flowers or greenery. I'd also get 2 matching indoor/ioutdoor rugs to anchor the chairs and settee, and bring more color, texture and interest to the porch. This porch has SO much untapped potential!

My first thought was a barn red or a pretty teal. Since your house is white and the shutters and door are black, a pop of color would be beautiful. You could even make some pretty fabric pillows to add more color. Sunbrella fabric will be fine left outside! Be sure and post pictures

If you're gonna paint the furniture, paint the doors too....and while your at it the shutters! This project could grow, lol!

@Justin Noel love your house. Two front doors Justin? Or is it a duplex? Love it regardless! Something about the shape of the roof, and the porch, of course!

I like the color of the furniture. I would purchase some colorful seat cushions. I can't tell from your pictures if you have plants in front of the porch or not but some much needed curb appeal would brighten up the front of your home. I would tear up the old sidewalks and put down new. If you can't afford concrete, patio blocks would work, that way you could extend it as you could afford it. Build the side walk away from the front of the porch so you can have some planting room on the right side as well as the left side. Using landscaping blocks to form your flowerbeds would also add color and interest. I'll post pictures to give you some ideas.

I think staining or painting the furniture would really brighten up the porch and add curb appeal.

My vote would be to paint your shutters and doors a brighter colour then use the same accent colours in your cushions and throws and accessories on the veranda. Also use some of the same colour in some pots of flowers or window boxes or similar. Use some painted pots with the house numbers painted on them and fill with flowers and place at your front door is another idea. Hanging flowers baskets would also cheer the spot up. No need to paint the chairs but of course that is entirely up to you!

Thanks everyone for your in put I just bought this house in December. Now that it's getting warmer I'm ready to mess with the outside. The house was built in 1877.

I would love to see pics of what you have done this summer. I think that upstairs window/door (?) needs something to make it stand out more.

Yes! I would paint the chairs neural colors and throw on some throw pillows! A throw blanket draped on a chair is nice too. Outdoor rugs warm things up with some green plants and a cute welcoming sign (which I just happen to make & sell on ETSY). Good luck - would love to see some after photos!!!

Love the house, my favorite thing is the "noel" stand between the doors which I would try to make stand out more with a small rug or tile. Red would be a great accent color. I would go with colorful rugs, pillows, planters, and a throw rather than painting the furniture. I would consider shutters on the top story "door" as well and gutters. Definitely post photos of whatever you decide.

Yes if not then the shutter, doors and trim need the paint job. Chairs and accents easier.

What a lovely house -- lucky you! I think your doors and shutters look great in black. How about (low) flower boxes under the windows? Cheery annuals might give you the color you want – and it's easy to change throughout the year. Fun to dress up during the holidays, too. And flowering shrubs in front of the porch would look – and smell – great. My only paint suggestion: The gray of the porch floor seems kind of cold for your charming house... Maybe if this was a warmer color, like a dark taupe? Or a soft, sage green?

You can add great color with planters of eatable vegetables, some Swiss chard is very colorful, reds, oranges yellow, sweet potatoes make lovely vines and the leaves steam into great greens as the potatoes grow underground, herbs are beautiful and fragrant. THINK Pretty and sustainable. Planter ideas abound. I've painted old 5 gallon buckets that no longer hold water. Prime then dry brush layers of related colors. Really great and can pull togehter a look that matches your other furniture.
