Paint the Log Box with with black paint or get a Log Basket, and on the other side stand some fire tools

Good idea above and also move that long picture from leaning on the brick to above the brick hanging It on the wall.

We live in a 1905 house and my husband just cleaned our Cawley Lemay for the winter (took the soot out too) Ours is in the basement so not same problem. I think If you took the brick all the way up it would look better. I know it isn't necessary but you are asking. Our kitchen once had a wood burning cook stove and the brick goes all the way up but chimney is in center of our house. You know what an inglenook is? Try to make the area to the left of the stove look like that. Oh, I see Ann says that is a picture over the stove. Yes center that and hang it properly. We couldn't use our basement in the winter if it weren't for our wood stove.

I'd want to remove some of the excess front part of the hearth. Maybe add a piece of wood in corner on each side to level front of back wall. Move picture to above and hang on wall. Maybe if the wall and stone work are painted the same color it will change the feel of being off center. Maybe build a small chest under the window instead of the sofa.

While I would hesitate to do away with the window in that corner....maybe you could build a bookcase type cabinet in a similar size to the back area of brick to make it look a little less noticeable. Play around with ideas using pictures of different corner ideas along with a picture of fireplace. Like put picture of bookcase over that side of picture of the fireplace wall. make a few copies and try different colors to find something that looks better to you.

cornereFirst I would take the brick all the way to the ceiling. Then build small open bookcases from corner ti corner. On the bottom of the window, I would build a window box that extends from the brick to the corner and have it open. Make a nice padded cover for it. You could use it for storage or wood whichever you decide. Good luck

How lucky you are to have a fireplace. Even more lucky you are a carpenter.

I would make a built in seat under the window with a book case above filling in across the complete wall and over the fireplace. This will unify the fireplace and wall while giving seating.

Post a picture when its done.
