I am excited to begin my first chalked paint project! YAY!

I have watched a few youtube videos and during one, the woman applied a wax before she actually painted the table. I haven't seen any oter videos that suggested wax before paint application.

Any suggestions to those of you who have used chalked paint before?

I never used wax before painting. Only after painting.

Maybe it was not wax...it is the worst thing to put on anything before painting...wax is usually sometimes applied after painting to seal in the color and give the surface durability...chalk paint needs nothing be done to the surface except just be sure it is clean ....just paint away!

DebM, that’s my theory, too. Like using wax on fabric to do a batik design, perhaps she was using wax in various areas on the wood. Then the paint goes on, but is wiped off, leaving the paint on the unwaxed part. That wax is scraped off, and new wax applied in different parts and new paint goes on. And so on.

    Anyway, that’s interesting. 😇

Paint then wax or use a poly. Depending on the piece I may skip wax altogether and poly it. Now the order changes if you want to do some antiquing. Paint, clear wax, antiquing gel or wax. If you antique before sealing a chalk paint with a clear wax it will soak up the dark antiquing wax and totally change your color. This poly, tho expensive, lasts quite awhile and was suggested by many. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BG6ITNC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
