"Fall Pruning. Cut the Shasta daisy plants back in the fall to 2 to 3 inches above the ground after the plants die back. In warm climates, the plants may stay green most of the year, and require pruning only to remove dead or straggly stems. Prune Shasta daisies any time to remove dead or diseased stems and flowers."

If you get a hard freeze in your area, then the plant will die back anyway and send up new stalks in the spring. Daisies are generally a perennial. I cut mine back to a couple inches tall in late October after they’ve stopped flowering. Same thing with Black Eyed Susans.
