I need to decorate the back of my "Brusali" ikea shelves

I am using the shelves as sort of a bar extension to my kitchen to close it off. So the back of the shelves are exposed to the living room. I want to make something to put on the back of the shelves to make them look nicer from the other side. Any ideas?

You can use wallpaper or contact paper t the back. Or how about deco podge a really cool map to the back.

You can wallpaper it, paint it with blackboard paint, use moulding to make a design, cover it with photos....it's a blank slate - let your imagination run wild.

I did something similar with a large, wide shelving unit. I found a large bambo blind, the type you use on a porch or sunroom. I removed the cords, trimmed the length at floor level and attached to the back. I just treat that like a wall. I even hung a mirror on it by going thru the slats and attaching a hanger.

  • I was thinking bead board - they even make bead board wallpaper...or, you could decoupage some pretty paper on it.

This might sound silly, but other than walking around Michaels for new ideas, I also love watching the show FLEAMARKET FLIP. They have some great ideas. And when I watch it, the wheels in my head start turning. Ya might wanna watch -OR- just look’m up online. 🍁💖🍁

I did a very similar thing fit a room divider. I used headboard panel from Lowe's. I used solid wood, not the particleboard, so that when I painted it all you could see the texture of the grain.

Why don't you do a old western style bar, with the foot rest? Use paneling that. looks like wood.

You can also get one of those woven grass mats they sell for the beach, should be real cheap right now.

If you have kids, screw in LEGO plates for a vertical building system. My kids LOVED this!

How about using coloured stones from the $store and glueing them to the back of the unit?!

I have some colorful gems you can use to match my bathroom mirror.... could be like a funky mosaic.
