Its MDF underneath, sand smooth, so prime well with Zinseer B-I-N and then use a nice satin or semi-gloss, or even high gloss enamel for kitchens and baths.

Forgot to say, I use a smooth foam roller to paint, and then a good badger brush to remove any texture or excess paint.
