PAINT! Paint can cover, camouflage and remake most things. Be sure to sand the surfaces well before painting so it sticks. As far as the paneling, you could consider doing faux wood or marble finishes.
Paint or replace are your options. Painting is least expensive but lots of work. Use a primer first and then a goof paint.

You could also make those cabinets look a bit better by adding trim around the edges to make them look like shaker cabinets.
or make them look ultra modern with a high-gloss enamel.

I use a 6" and 3-4" foam rollers.
I too like Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd Paint.
If you adding new hardware, fill and sand the holes before painting.
