How to take an old Tv console and make it into a bookshlef

I have an old Zenith console cabinet and want to make a bookcase out of it.

    Easiest way to me. Remove all the insides and back.

    Decide if you want to use regular shelving wood or cut strips from sheet of plywood.

    Measure inside of console end to end and front to back= size of shelf to buy or cut.

    Not sure how big the console is but average spacing on bookcase is about 12-16". You may have room for only 2 or 3 shelves.

    To support shelves use 1/2" to 3/4" Square strips of wood. Attach using screws or nails about 1/2 inch long. Plan for 2-3 nails per support on each end. Through console into support.

    You could use small L brackets but only if sides of console are thick enough to support weight of contents + shelf.


    Materials:

    screws/nails 4-6 per shelf X number of shelves.

    As many shelves as needed.

    Paint, brush as needed. I suggest semi gloss, latex.
