You might put it out to the street or alley behind the house. WE put ours to empty into a french drain that carried it out to the edge of the property with the end of the french drain open.

  • Mine goes out to the street.

we just went through (well a month ago) an interesting experience with just this question. Our town sent a company out to survey water that shouldn't be going into the sewer system but rather into the storm drain system. It all had to do with how much water we collected in our basement during rains. Repairs could have been as extensive as digging up our front yard to make a different connection (at no cost to us except the almost certain loss of a weeping birch) to as little as a new plug to our cellar drain, which was the solution. Your town or city should be able to answer this question for you, probably the public works division

Dig a small trench, even with a hoe, to redirect the water in the best direction. Toward a sewer or drain line is best. 😇
