Funny you mention that, I am shopping for new toilets myself. What brand do you have, I might be able to figure it out. Sounds like it might just need a slight adjustment.
If you know the model number, you can enter it on You Tube. They will walk you thru it.
I would call the manufacturer and ask them, or go to a home improvement that carries it or where you purchased it. They should have all the replacement parts you would need and can show you how to replace it. The store associates that work in the different departments really seem to know their stuff and should be able to help you.
Your flapper in not completely flat, that's why it keeps running. The chain may be too short. Flush the toilet, and have the lid off, see what it does, and correct it.
Lots of videos on YouTube, is this the kind you have? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G25lcYXaWCM
If you have the type I had, no flapper, it was just the lower gasket on the float. Mine was a Kohler. It cost 4 bucks, and solved the problem.
If it's a Kohler with a power flush, you might have to replace some of the mechanism. Their guarantee is longer than most products. Ours broke after 3 years and they sent us a new mechanism.
