Does anyone know of a smaller option to a plasma cutter for metalwork?

My husband is a welder.... he says a torch will cut quite well... but the edges are really ragged and the hole is really big.... We found our plasma cutter from a neighbor, who had to move for work for $400 and have seen them on Craig's list at about half of list price for a Miller.
Harbor Freight has some at a somewhat reasonable price... but we would not use them for heavy commercial use.
It all depends on just what type of cutting you need to and want to do.
Take to "shop", negotiate, is expensive
If you just want it for occasional jobs then you would be better off taking it to a local fabricator but if you will be using it often then check out a welding supply store in your area, some times they have used that they have taken in exchange from someone that is upgrading there equipment or know someone that has one for sale. Good luck
