If your jig saw is a good one, it should work. But first drill a starting hole with drill. I once cut a hole though a side wall into the yard to make a dog door. Mill age 90.
A jig saw should work just fine... just drill a starter hole in each corner first
Sure just mark the out the outline of the doggie door using a level, tape the edges to prevent splitting, drill a hole in a corner to insert your jig saw and saw away. It might be easier to drill all 4 corners, just make sure the hole in in the part to be removed.

Jig saw will work. May take some time and slow going. Don't force the cut too much. have some extra blades just in case.
