you would have to use a pond liner in the bed of the truck to make it safe for fish and plants -
The "container" could be anything... it is the pump and filter system and the pond liner that will make it work. For best results you will need to put a filter system in the pond to keep the fish alive. And if you live in an area where winter freezes water ponds below 3 foot deep... you will need to winter the fish in the basement or house.
Be aware that your water lillies and pond plants will require different depth (some like to be totally submerged, and some only like to have their "feet" wet) and they will require protection from the fish, I paid $26 for a big lily and within a week the fish had totally eaten it. And some of the plants put oxygen into the water and some take it out. In some states it is illegal to use water hyacinth in the event it gets out into local lakes or ponds (via storm drains)
Sounds like a great project and the perfect way to re-purpose the truck bed.
