Is there a good cleaner to clean the wooden stairway to the second floor in an old house to protect the finish. Thank you.
They may need to be re-nailed, or put construction glue and screws in where they are loose. Old wood dries and shrinks, so it is not the same size as it was when they were built. Refastening the pieces will probably help if you can get to the back side.

Stairs usually squeak because they are rubbing against the wall. Nail it down good.
